In every respect, the 1984 Bassmaster Classic must be considered one of the premier fishing events of all-time. The 14th annual Classic was held Aug. 16-18, 1984, on the Arkansas River.

Bo Dowden caught a 6-pound, 6-ounce bass, the biggest of the tournament, which anchored his 54-10 three-day catch, and earned him the crown in the "Super Bowl of Bass Fishing." The 10th annual Classic championship was held Sept. 24-26, 1980.

Rick Clunn of Montgomery, Texas, became the first angler to win back-to-back Classics with a catch of 27 pounds, 7 ounces. The seventh annual Bassmaster Classic was held Oct. 26-28, 1977, at Lake Toho, Fla.

Charlie Reed, 51, of Broken Bow, Okla., became the oldest angler at that time to win a Classic, with a 21-bass, 23-pound, 9-ounce creel. The 16th annual Bassmaster Classic was held Aug. 14-16, 1986, in Chickamauga, Tenn.
