Savannah College of Art and Design’s first varsity male and female bass fishing teams are getting some attention.
The Savannah Morning News wrote an article about the teams, founded in part by Isaac Payne, a former club angler at SCAD and now the teams’ coach.
Members of the team include B.A.S.S. High School program alumni Laura Ann Foshee, Noah Pescitelli and Cody Stahl.

Fishing is one of two sports SCAD is launching this year. The school also started a bowling team, which hosted its first tournament on Saturday at AMF Savannah Lanes.
SCAD athletic director Doug Wollenburg laughed when asked about the challenges of creating two new programs in the same year, let alone two sports that most colleges don’t have.
“It’s been an interesting process as far as being an athletic director with start-up sports,” Wollenburg said. “We hired our coaches first so they could recruit. They found unique students who wanted the SCAD degree and could compete as anglers and as bowlers.”
Payne was given free reign on who to recruit, so he plucked some of the best high school anglers from the Southeast along with a few other from across the country.
