Chapel Hill, N.C. — College and high school bass anglers are invited to compete in the first Collegiate/High School Team Tournament hosted by the North Carolina State Basspack Oct. 14 on Jordan Lake.
The unique open tournament will pair one collegiate angler with one high school angler to form a team to compete against other collegiate/high school teams for the one-day showdown. The event is open to any collegiate angler who is a member of an established collegiate team, including club alumni, and to any high school anglers. Bragging rights are on the line as the collegiate anglers will serve as mentors and operate the boats, while high school anglers will have a chance to show their skills alongside some of the best college anglers in the country.
The NCSU Basspack B.A.S.S. Nation club initiated the idea for the tournament and approached N.C. B.A.S.S. Nation member Jeff Narron with their idea. “They were interested in providing a community event in which to pair a few Basspack anglers with some local high school students for a fun day on the water,” said Narron, who runs an Eastern N.C. Nation High School Series. “After some discussion, we decided to open up the event to all collegiate anglers in an attempt to maximize the opportunity for a high school angler to fish alongside a college peer.”
“Our hopes are that this will become an annual event and will spark additional interest among both collegiate and high school anglers,” Narron said.
