Today in the B.A.S.S. booth at the GEICO Bassmaster Classic EXPO presented by DICK’S Sporting Goods two young anglers signed fishing scholarships with Campbellsville University.
The future college anglers are Landen Siggers of Danville, Virginia, and Evan Davis of Campbellsville, Kentucky, both signed the paperwork while their families looked on.
“Just being able to pursue my education and fishing is a dream come true,” said Davis.
The Carhartt Bassmaster College Series presented by Bass Pro Shops held its 2016 National Championship at Campbellsville University in 2016. Siggers first visited the campus during that tournament.
“The Classic is the biggest tournament in the world, with the best anglers in the world,” said Siggers “To do the signing here is amazing.” Siggers said he signed with Campbellsville because he really liked coach Tommy Hall.
Campbellsville has been awarding fishing scholarships for the past four years. There are currently 20 anglers on the team. At Campbellsville the fishing program is not a club sport, it’s part of the athletics program, with team trucks and travel money.
One of the Campbellsville teams placed 14th in the 2017 Bassmaster College National Championship. “We were 3 ounces from fishing in the final day,” said Hall. “And we had a 4-ounce dead fish penalty that day. Both of those anglers are juniors this year.”
Sponsors for the Campbellsville team include Lowrance, Navionics, Seaguar, Spro, Dixie Custom Rods, Land Big Fish, and D&L Jigs.
