Day 2 with Christie - Bassmaster

One of the pre-tournament favorites, Oklahomaâs Jason Christie started the morning with the lead after Day One.

And as expected he had a lot of boats following him today.

His spectator boats stayed a good distance back on his first fishing spotâ¦

â¦in the back of a pocket off the main lake.

It wouldnât be long before Christie would give the hometown fans something to cheer about.

â¦Christie boated his first fish in the first hourâ¦

â¦and quicklyâ¦

â¦put it in the live well.

The tournament leader in any Bassmaster Classic is going to attract a lot of photographers, too.

Every move he made on Day Two resembled a shotgun start at bass tournament.

Christie stopped fishing often to re-tie.

And it paid off; he didnât lose a fish all day.

He quickly unpinned this fishâ¦

â¦showed it to all the spectators following himâ¦

â¦then to the folks at home watching live on Bassmaster.com.

Christie fished every piece of cover he came toâ¦

â¦then quickly moved to another location.

He only had a bite or two at each stopâ¦

â¦and his day was a grind.

He talked and visited with just about every spectator that watched him fish from docks along the lake.

The weather was perfect today on Grand Lake, and it wasnât long before he was shedding layers of clothing.

His second fish eats his spinnerbaitâ¦

â¦and he made quick workâ¦

â¦getting this fish in the boat.

After a quick measurementâ¦

â¦he determined the fish wasnât measure and threw it back.

Both Christie and his spectators were waiting on the big ones to bite.

Christie handled all of it with a smile, kept to his game plan and his spinnerbaitâ¦

â¦and thoroughly fished every place he stopped on.

When he moved it was sometimes hard to find him as he moved through the maze of boats following him.

Maybe he should try this spot.

There were times he moved to the back of the boat to fish a boat dock.

The long morning grind finally pays off.

Maybe not the best fish catch photo ever. If you canât find the fish, look between his camera manâs legs.

Christie boats one of his best fish of the day.

Next he caught a short fishâ¦

â¦and had a drone flying above his head for a while.

Christie is a deer hunter, and couldnât help but check out a deer feeding in the back of a pocket he was fishing.

But that bit of a distraction didnât keep him from knowing when a fish ate the spinnerbait he was throwing.

It made a bit of noiseâ¦

â¦but was quickly in his grasp.

This was one of the fishâ¦

â¦he would cull later in the day.

One of the problems with spectator boats can beâ¦

â¦trying to turn around and fish your way back out.

In the afternoon Christie made a decision to run and gun several key spots.

He made a few casts under this bridgeâ¦

â¦then idled to a close piece of cover.

With his day winding to a closeâ¦

â¦Christie started making his way back to the launch siteâ¦

â¦and boats one of his best fish of the day.

He removed the spinnerbait from the fishesâ mouthâ¦

â¦showed it quickly to the spectators following himâ¦

â¦then his cameramanâ¦

â¦then made a very helpful cull.

He took a quick moment to place his two smallest fish on a culling beamâ¦

â¦in anticipation of culling again before his day ended.

He made several casts in the area he was fishingâ¦

â¦visited with spectators watching him fishâ¦

â¦before moving to the last place he would fish at the end of the day.

With less than fifteen minutes to fishâ¦

â¦he set the hook on his final fish of the day.

Could this be the fish that would help Christie maintain his lead going into the final day?

After getting the fish safely into the boatâ¦

â¦he made one last cullâ¦

…made a couple more castsâ¦

â¦pulled his trolling motor up for the final time on Day Twoâ¦

â¦and checked in at the end of the day.
