Day 2 with Christie
Posted on
One of the pre-tournament favorites, Oklahomaâs Jason Christie started the morning with the lead after Day One. 1/70
And as expected he had a lot of boats following him today. 2/70
His spectator boats stayed a good distance back on his first fishing spotâ¦3/70
â¦in the back of a pocket off the main lake. 4/70
It wouldnât be long before Christie would give the hometown fans something to cheer about. 5/70
â¦Christie boated his first fish in the first hourâ¦6/70
â¦and quicklyâ¦7/70
â¦put it in the live well. 8/70
The tournament leader in any Bassmaster Classic is going to attract a lot of photographers, too.9/70
Every move he made on Day Two resembled a shotgun start at bass tournament. 10/70
Christie stopped fishing often to re-tie. 11/70
And it paid off; he didnât lose a fish all day. 12/70
He quickly unpinned this fishâ¦13/70
â¦showed it to all the spectators following himâ¦14/70
â¦then to the folks at home watching live on Bassmaster.com. 15/70
16/70
Christie fished every piece of cover he came toâ¦17/70
â¦then quickly moved to another location. 18/70
He only had a bite or two at each stopâ¦19/70
â¦and his day was a grind. 20/70
He talked and visited with just about every spectator that watched him fish from docks along the lake. 21/70
The weather was perfect today on Grand Lake, and it wasnât long before he was shedding layers of clothing. 22/70
His second fish eats his spinnerbaitâ¦23/70
â¦and he made quick workâ¦24/70
â¦getting this fish in the boat. 25/70
After a quick measurementâ¦26/70
â¦he determined the fish wasnât measure and threw it back. 27/70
Both Christie and his spectators were waiting on the big ones to bite. 28/70
Christie handled all of it with a smile, kept to his game plan and his spinnerbait⦠29/70
â¦and thoroughly fished every place he stopped on. 30/70
When he moved it was sometimes hard to find him as he moved through the maze of boats following him. 31/70
Maybe he should try this spot. 32/70
There were times he moved to the back of the boat to fish a boat dock. 33/70
The long morning grind finally pays off. 34/70
Maybe not the best fish catch photo ever. If you canât find the fish, look between his camera manâs legs. 35/70
Christie boats one of his best fish of the day. 36/70
Next he caught a short fishâ¦37/70
â¦and had a drone flying above his head for a while. 38/70
Christie is a deer hunter, and couldnât help but check out a deer feeding in the back of a pocket he was fishing. 39/70
But that bit of a distraction didnât keep him from knowing when a fish ate the spinnerbait he was throwing. 40/70
It made a bit of noiseâ¦41/70
â¦but was quickly in his grasp. 42/70
This was one of the fishâ¦43/70
â¦he would cull later in the day. 44/70
One of the problems with spectator boats can beâ¦45/70
â¦trying to turn around and fish your way back out. 46/70
In the afternoon Christie made a decision to run and gun several key spots. 47/70
He made a few casts under this bridgeâ¦48/70
â¦then idled to a close piece of cover. 49/70
With his day winding to a closeâ¦50/70
â¦Christie started making his way back to the launch siteâ¦51/70
â¦and boats one of his best fish of the day. 52/70
He removed the spinnerbait from the fishesâ mouthâ¦53/70
â¦showed it quickly to the spectators following himâ¦54/70
â¦then his cameramanâ¦55/70
â¦then made a very helpful cull. 56/70
He took a quick moment to place his two smallest fish on a culling beamâ¦57/70
â¦in anticipation of culling again before his day ended. 58/70
He made several casts in the area he was fishingâ¦59/70
â¦visited with spectators watching him fishâ¦60/70
â¦before moving to the last place he would fish at the end of the day. 61/70
With less than fifteen minutes to fishâ¦62/70
â¦he set the hook on his final fish of the day. 63/70
Could this be the fish that would help Christie maintain his lead going into the final day? 64/70
65/70
After getting the fish safely into the boatâ¦66/70
â¦he made one last cullâ¦67/70
…made a couple more castsâ¦68/70
â¦pulled his trolling motor up for the final time on Day Twoâ¦69/70
