Blaylock bashes 'em on Day 2

Coming into today in 3rd place, Stetson Blaylock battles to hold his place at the AFTCO Bassmaster Elite at the St Johns River.

Day 2 has begun for Blaylock. He starts his day fishing slow and picking apart his area.

Blaylock is covering a long stretch of canal bank, interchanging between 2 different baits. He is covering the rocky edge while periodically using LiveScope to spot fish roaming away from the bank.

He is using a faster moving bait to periodically target the fish roaming out towards the middle.

He decides shortly into his day to switch to the shady side of the canal. The previous side isn’t producing any fish, therefore it’s time to make a change.

Other anglers are often traveling this canal to get to their next spots.

The shady side is showing more activity on the graph.

Shortly after moving, Blaylock is hooked up with his first fish of the day.

Fish number 1 is in the boat and Blaylock is on the board to start Day 2.

Blaylock sets down his baitcaster, as his spinning reel set up and slower presentation seems to be doing the trick.

And in no time, fish number 2 is on the hook.

Using a spinning reel, Blaylock must tire this fish for a minute or so to ensure it doesn’t break off.

Which always make for some great jump shots!

Fish number 2 is in the boat. “I think that seals me in the cut for tomorrow, that was my first goal for today.”

Blaylock is starting to rely more on his spinning reel set up and fishing the edge instead of wasting time with the roaming fish. The fish roaming out towards the middle seem to be more lethargic.

I’m unable to make out what he has, but fish number 3 is on the hook just moments later.

And in the boat it goes. Halfway through the day, this fish puts Blaylock back into his 3rd place spot according to BassTrakk.

3 fish in the livewell at this point, only 2 more to fill his limit.

After a short stretch of time with no bites, he ties up a squarebill to change things up a bit and try a different presentation.

Squarebills are a popular lure choice when fishing rocky or wood covered banks. The chartreus color helps the fish target the bait in this stained water environment.

After some re-rigging, it’s time for Blaylock to go try a few of his other locations.

The first stop is a small underwater ledge. This spot didn’t produce any fish for him.

The next spot is a shady canal lined with wooden walls all throughout.

Blaylock goes about this spot flipping under and around boat docks.

Blaylock fishes out this canal, catching a couple short fish that will not help in the end.

Afterwards, I finished up with his back at the same canal where he started. His plan is to finish up his day here considering most of his fish came from this spot later in the day yesterday.
