Gary Moreno and Tony Viator were named the winners of the Yamaha Bassmaster Redfish Cup Championship presented by Skeeter at Apalachicola Bay on Oct. 27, but B.A.S.S. officials today announced that the team has been disqualified for failing to pass one of the polygraph examinations given after a competitor protest related to Rule 5 of the Practice and Competition portion of the Official Rules of Competition. As a result, the second-place team of Michael Frenette and Mark Robinson have been named the Redfish Cup Championship champions.
Rule 5 of the Practice and Competition portion of the Official Rules of Competition addressed in the polygraph included:
There will be an off-limits beginning October 1, 2024 at 12:01 am and extending through October 21, 2024 at safe light. During this time, anglers are not allowed on the water. From October 1 – October 27, 2024 anglers are not allowed to solicit, gather or intentionally receive any information from anyone other than another competitor in the tournament
Official practice will begin at safe light on October 21, 2024. No competitors will be allowed on Tournament waters after final Official Practice Day (October 23, 2024) until the first day of competition, except under paragraph 5.
