Prior to the Day 3 weigh-in of the Bassmaster Elite at Lake Martin presented by Econo Lodge, our very own Dave Precht was inducted into the Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame. Precht’s induction was based in part on his 19 years as the editor of Bassmaster Magazine where he used the publication to promote boating safety, youth fishing, conservation, sportfishing ethics and bass fishing as a family activity.
David Rainer with Outdoor Alabama presented the award.
“I have long been an admirer of the Fresh Water Fishing Hall of Fame and all it does for sportfishing and the people who are involved in it, so I am extremely honored to be inducted into the Hall today,” said Precht.
Precht is the longtime V.P. of Publications and Communications for B.A.S.S., and with 39 years at the organization he is its longest-serving employee. B.A.S.S. is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. B.A.S.S. founder Ray Scott hired Precht in 1979 to be the eventual editor of Bassmaster Magazine, after training behind then-editor Bob Cobb for a time.
“For almost 40 years, I’ve been doing my dream job. I wanted a job like this since I was in grade school, which was before the job existed, and even before B.A.S.S. existed,” said Precht. “I have been blessed to have worked in this great sport for so many years.”
Precht is also in the Bass Fishing Hall of Fame and the Legends of Outdoors. He is on the Communications Committee of the American Sportfishing Association and is on the Board of Directors for the Bass Fishing Hall of Fame.
The Fresh Water Fishing Hall of Fame is the international headquarters for education, recognition and promotion of freshwater sportfishing, based in Hayward, Wisconsin. One of the many programs of the organization is recognizing individuals, organizations and institutions that have made significant and lasting contributions to the sport and heritage of freshwater fishing.
