New wins BassTrakk contingency prize at Bassmaster Classic

Bryan New wins the BassTrakk contingency prize at the 2022 Academy Sports + Outdoors Bassmaster Classic presented by Huk.

Not only did South Carolina pro Bryan New finish in the Top 10 at the 2022 Academy Sports + Outdoors Bassmaster Classic presented by Huk, he will also be taking home an extra $1,000 for winning the BassTrakk Contingency Prize.

The BassTrakk prize goes to the angler whose BassTrakk estimates are closest to his official weight. New was just three ounces off of his official weight. His official weight over the first two days was 33-7, and he estimated 33-10 on BassTrakk.

At the Champions Toast on Sunday night, New was ecstatic to have won the prize and mentioned that he had wanted to win the prize for a while now.

“In all honesty, if it wasn’t for the contingency prize, I probably wouldn’t take the time to individually put them in,” said New. “The $1,000 bonus gives you an extra incentive to put them in BassTrakk correctly.

“Even if there wasn’t a prize, I wouldn’t sandbag like all these other guys, but I’d still put them in close.”

New continued on by saying that he believes that BassTrakk also helps anglers receive extra coverage throughout the tournament as well, which he said is a great thing for the anglers.

Here’s the BassTrakk Top 10, and how far off each was off from his official weight.

• Bryan New: 0-3
• Nick LeBrun: 0-4
• Steve Kennedy: 0-8
