BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Want a chance to weigh in on the Bassmaster Classic stage? Two high school students will have a chance to do just that — after they win the Alabama Sports Festival Bass Fishing competition on Alabama’s Logan Martin Lake, Saturday, June 22.
Any Alabama high school student is eligible to compete. Registration costs $25 on site, beginning at 4:30 a.m. on June 22. The tournament briefing is at 5:30 a.m. at Pell City Lakeside Park, 2801 Stemley Bridge Road, Cropwell, AL 35054. More details are available on the Alabama Sports Festival’s website.
“It’s an opportunity to participate in an Olympics-style sporting event while also getting a chance to qualify for the B.A.S.S. High School Exhibition,” said Jon Stewart, B.A.S.S. Nation senior manager. “Last year, it was a pretty cool sight to see all the high school bass fishing teams walking in during the opening ceremonies.
“B.A.S.S. is proud to be a partner with the Alabama Sports Festival and to continue the growth of high school bass fishing,” continued Stewart.
The winning team will walk across the Classic stage in the first ever Bassmaster Classic High School Exhibition at the 2014 Bassmaster Classic in Birmingham, Ala., Feb. 21-23, 2014. The partners will compete in a one-day tournament against nine other teams on a body of water yet to be announced. Then they’ll weigh their catches right before the world’s best bass anglers in the world come across the stage.
One other team for the exhibition will come from the Alabama B.A.S.S. Nation High School Championship Nov. 2, and the other eight will come from the first B.A.S.S. High School Invitational, July 20.
