We at The Bass University adopted “Never Stop Learning” as our motto because we believe that bass fishing is a never ending educational process. No matter how long we fish, or at what level we fish, we’ll never know it all.
That doesn’t mean we can’t try to know it all, however. That’s what The Bass University is all about — learning and trying.
This year we have seminars scheduled in five cities around the country. The first one is scheduled for November 6 and 7 in Kissimmee, Fla. After that we’ll be visiting Chicago in early December, Nashville the week after that, Shreveport after the first of the year, and Framingham, Mass., in the middle of January. (You can get full details from our Web site at www.thebassuniversity.com.)
Each seminar is a full two days of intensive instruction. The idea is to take anglers with some bass fishing knowledge and experience and bump them up to the next level. We do that by combining several key areas of knowledge into one complete package.
We firmly believe that your best allies on the water are sound techniques and strong fundamental skills. We develop them by having our top pros talk about bass fishing patterns, often blending them into local fishing conditions in the area we’re holding the seminar. And yes, in case you’re wondering, we go into specifics — places, baits, and techniques. We hold nothing back.
We’ll review tackle and baits in detail. We’ll talk about the advantages and disadvantages of baitcasting and spinning tackle, as well as when you should use one instead of the other. They’re different, but that doesn’t mean one is better than the other. Each has its place.
We’ll talk about when to use monofilament, fluorocarbon and braid lines, and how they affect bait performance with the most popular rigs and baits. Mixed in with all this you’ll learn about several lures and when, as well as when not, to use them.
We also devote lots of time to lure presentation and boat positioning. This one is especially important to me. I think the angle and manner of lure presentation is one of the most neglected topics in all of bass fishing. Of course, you can’t present a lure properly unless your boat is properly positioned so we cover that, too.
Maybe the most important thing we do, though, is make all our instructors available to all our students. You’ll have a chance to mingle with the best bass anglers alive, get to know them, and pick their brains for information that you need to get better. It’s truly a rare learning opportunity.
The first seminar in Kissimmee will feature several well-known speakers. I’ll be there with my partner, Pete Gluszek. The other speakers include Brett Hite, Ish Monroe, Peter “T” Thliveros, and Scott Martin. The other seminars will feature speakers just as powerful.
Come visit us. We’d love to take your game to the next level.
