Today wasn't much different than yesterday. The fog delay this morning — about three hours — cut my fishing time down to about two and a half hours but other than that nothing significant happened.
There were no problems with my run, no fueling problems and no execution problems. I don't think I missed a fish all day. It was the same thing all over again — including no big fish in my livewell. Call it Groundhog Day.
I'm really glad I have the radar unit, though. Without it my trip would have been much longer and wouldn't have been nearly as safe. I can't say enough about how happy I am with Lowrance for going the extra mile and getting this thing in my boat in time for me to learn how to use it for the competition. It's really helped.
If you guys are serious about your fishing you should consider investing in one. I know they're a little expensive but they might save your life early some morning when you're on your way to your favorite fishing hole.
Back to the Classic: It's about as frustrating a situation as I've ever encountered in a tournament. If I had problems with my area or my technique I'd make changes. But the truth of the matter is I believe in my heart that I'm fishing the right area and that the winning fish are there. It's just a matter of getting the bigger bass to bite. (That makes it sound so easy doesn't it?)
My weight yesterday (Saturday) was 11 pounds, 9 ounces. Add that to the 13 pounds, 1 ounce I weighed Friday and I made the cut with a total of 24 pounds, 10 ounces. I'm setting in 17th place as of this writing. That's not where I wanted to be on Saturday evening but I'll take it. I've been in worse shape.
Tomorrow is another day. I'll do exactly what I did on Friday and Saturday. I'll make a long run even if there's a serious fog delay in the morning and I'll fish the same area with the same baits. Before this thing started I thought the winning weight was in my area and I still think that.
What I will do different it try to find the bigger fish. Really, I guess that's not much different. I did that today but because of the long fog delay I didn't get much time to look around. Hopefully, I'll have more time to work on the problem tomorrow. Maybe that'll help me work through this problem, and help me shut up the hawk at the same time.
My family's here so I need to go. Not Becky, but most of the rest of them. She's at home with Vegas. I think I told you the pediatrician pulled the kill switch on her coming down here. It's disappointing but if it's best for the baby it's best for me.
Never give up…
