Downtime

Hi! It's me, Becky. I'm going to fill in for Mike this week. Things have been good for us, but also a little hectic. Mike's on the water trying to find some bass to catch later this week. He's really excited about the schedule this year. I hope he does well.

Classic week was tough on me. I really wanted to be there, but I couldn't travel that far with our baby, Vegas, or at least that's what the doctor said. It was disappointing, but if you don't do what they tell you to do, there's no reason to have one. Besides, I was worn out. Having a baby is hard work.

Mike came back right after the Classic to spend time with us. He called it his "downtime." I have my doubts. It didn't look like downtime to me. He spent almost every hour with the kids. There was very little relaxation, although he did log lots of quality family time.

There for a while I didn't think he was ever going to put Vegas down and let someone else hold him. He finally did, though. Of course, that was only so that he could spend time with Drew and Riley. They're both involved in sports, dance and all sorts of other stuff. He likes to watch everything when he's home. It helps to make up for him being on the road so much.

That's a side of Mike a lot of fans never see. He's devoted to his family. He's not a one-dimensional man. His world is about much more than fishing. Maybe I'm biased, but I think that's great. So what if it takes time away from his profession!

We had a wonderful couple of weeks. Then this morning (Monday) it was back to reality. Mike went down to his boat and everything was dead — bad battery. It was a hassle but he finally got it started and went fishing. The frustrating thing about it is that the boat's new. You wouldn't think you'd have a dead battery on a boat that's only weeks old. We did.

Normally I'd take care of it in an hour or two. The baby changes that. I can't just run around like I once did. Life's more complicated now. Vegas is my first priority for most of the day and night. I found out real quick that being a new mom is a full-time job.

Don't get me wrong, though. I wouldn't have it any other way. I love it when he sleeps on my shoulder — most of the time — and I even love getting up in the middle of the night to feed him. It's special between us.

Mike couldn't do that, anyway. We're breast feeding. He doesn't have what it takes no matter how bad he wants to be a part of it. I actually think that frustrates him a little bit. He's nuts.

Let's all hope for a good tournament.
