I'm sorry that this is being posted late, but it's been a week like no other, at least no other I can remember. I'm filming commercials for Nitro Boats and for the Bass Pro Shops Spring Classics. Because of scheduling issues, we have to do four days' work in two and a half. I have to admit, though, in some ways it's a lot of fun.
Monday my day started at 4:30 a.m. when I had to catch a plane to Orlando, Fla. After a short stop in Cincinnati — I had to run from one gate to another to make my connection — I arrived about 11:00 a.m.
Naturally I was hungry. The people who picked me up at the airport said we didn't have time to stop. We had to go to work. We did manage to go through a drive-thru and get some fast food. It was better than nothing.
We were on set and working by noon. Edwin Evers, Tim Horton, Stacey King and Bill Dance were all present to do Nitro Boat informational CDs. These are given to potential buyers and detail all the new features that each model has to offer.
Each of us has a boat we handle. Mine is the new Z9. I'm here to tell you this one's the real deal. I'm not going to go through all the features it has right now. There's not enough time or space. But let me tell you it's about as advanced as a boat can get. Check it out when you get a chance and definitely before you even think about buying anything else.
They make the CDs by filming us as we talk about the boats and point out the features we think are important on them. They give us a few talking points, but, for the most part, what I talk about is what I like about the boat. I get to make my own decisions. The other guys do exactly the same.
Sometimes everything goes according to plan and we're done in no time. Other times we have to do things over and over until it's right. (Have you ever watched a TV blooper show?) We finished after dark. I went to dinner sometime after 7:30 p.m. and was in bed shortly thereafter.
The CDs are a good deal for any angler looking to purchase a new bass boat. We all spend a lot of time on the water. We know what works and what doesn't. And we all have integrity when it comes to promoting products. We wouldn't say something mattered, or was a good deal, if we didn't believe it.
Next week we'll be back on schedule. Monday I'll tell you all about what goes into making TV commercials — the makeup room, learning your lines, timing, people and fish, the crew and a host of other stuff.
Remember, it's all about the attitude.
