What does it do?
Sharpens your knife, axe, machete, scissors or whatever on the spot, no matter where you are (as long as you have it with you). It even has a provision for fish hooks!
Why do I need it?
Take a look at your pocket knife. Feel the blade. When was the last time you sharpened it? That’s what I thought. Or, suppose you’ve got one of those old Spooks that have the hooks that don’t detach. They’re old and likely need sharpening since it’s a bear to replace them.
How do I use it?
Take your pocket knife, set it against the angle guide, and then draw it blade first across the coarse diamond sharpener side of the tool. Do this 5-10 times, ensuring that the whole length of the blade sees the sharpening surface. Repeat on the fine bar. Then, dial up the coarse side of the ceramic rod and repeat, once again with the fine side. Polish the edge (leading with the non-cutting edge of the knife) with the leather strop.
What sets it apart?
Besides the fact that this thing is a steal ($35!), it’ll sharpen every blade you’ve got short of lawn mower blades. It even does serrated edges. It’s also super easy for a novice to use, thanks to the built-in angle guides, which give your blade the perfect 25-degree edge. Also, once the diamond bars are worn down, simply replace them. This is a sharpener that will never wear out and never cease to be useful.
