GREENVILLE, S.C. — Ah, yes, the winning lure of the Bassmaster Classic — the crown jewel of bass lures — now destined to become the hottest-selling item in the bass fishing world until the next Bassmaster Classic.
If you have followed the big leagues of bass fishing for any length of time, you probably know that the winning lure of the Bassmaster Classic is invariably referred to as a "prototype" immediately following the Classic, which roughly translates to endorsement deal being negotiated with sponsors over winning lure.
And rightly so. The winner of the Bassmaster Classic should be entitled to some handsome royalties based on the frenzied post-Classic windfall that usually results.
Alton Jones' Classic winning lures are no exception: Already Jones is referring to the lures with which he won the Classic as "prototype" jigs made by Booyah that will likely be called a "Pigskin Jig" and an "AJ's Go To Jig."
The third lure he used, a Cotton Cordell CC spoon, you probably already own. If you don't, check your dad's old tacklebox up in the attic. There's a good chance there are a few old CC's hanging around in there.
