What is it?
Lowrance’s Mark Series and Elite Series.
What does it do?
They show you the bottom of the lake without scraping the bottom of your wallet. One’s color (Elite), the other’s black and white (Mark), but both pack big-time features into compact units.
Why do I need it?
Nowadays fish finders are so commonplace that you need one just to compete, especially if you’re any distance off the bank. Plus, both of these systems have GPS capability which is a safety measure as well as a fish-catching tool.
How do I use it?
At the risk of stating the obvious, the GPS function of these units aid in navigation. The chartplotting/sonar portion help identify what’s below your boat. They can mark all sorts of contours and debris, even fish. Plus, they display the time and water temperature, if so enabled.
How much?
The pricing schedule looks like this:
Elite-4x Color Fishfinder, $169; Mark-4x Grayscale Fishfinder/Chartplotter, $199, Elite-4 Fishfinder/Chartplotter, $299; Elite-4 DSI (DownScan Imaging™) Fishfinder/Chartplotter, $349
What sets it apart?
Lowrance designed the Elite and Mark series to be as loaded as a small, budget-friendly units can be.
The Mark are black and white, and can be had with a 3 1/2 or 5-inch screen and varying degrees of features. The stripped-down Mark unit (the Mark-4) has a 3 1/2-inch screen, TrackBack capability, a bright LED screen, and a card slot for high-definition mapping capability among other things. The high-end Mark unit (the Mark 5X- Pro) has all those options in a 5-inch screen with a higher-frequency signal for a better picture. |
The Elite Series are similar to the Mark series except they’re in color. The high-end Elite Series units (Elite 5-DSI) features Lowrance’s DownScan technology, which offers anglers a crystal-clear photo-like view of what’s underneath them. |
