Hot Product Press: SeaStar Jackplates

What is it?

SeaStar’s latest and greatest hydraulic jackplates, the SeaStar and the SeaStar HD.

What does it do?

A jackplate bolts between your transom and outboard to offer setback, or distance between the motor and boat. This can improve performance and holeshot as well as get you in and out of skinny water with ease. If you’re in rough water, you’ll want to lower the plate to keep that prop wet. When you need to fly, raise it up and watch your speedometer climb. These plates are built to last, even under the harshest conditions.

How do I use it?

You’ll likely want an experienced mechanic with a lift to install it, but it’s easy. Once it’s on your boat you control it via a blinker-style level.

What sets it apart?

Bass boaters likely won’t need the HD model because it’s rated for outboards up to 350 horsepower. The regular SeaStar will handle a 300-horsepower motor that weighs 625 pounds. They both provide 6 inches of travel and thanks to new high-output actuators can go from top to bottom in less than 8 1/2 seconds. They can be had in 4-, 6-, 8-, 10- or 12-inch setback and are fully waterproof.
