It seems almost every angler on the water has a GoPro camera attached to their boat in some form or fashion…and oftentimes in several forms and fashions. For those guys, and especially for the few who have yet to jump on that wagon, GoPro introduced the smallest, easiest to use camera in their already extensive lineup.
The new HERO4 Session is about the size of an ice cube. All a user has to do to work the camera is push a single button on the top of the unit. A short press of the button turns on the camera and it immediately starts taking high-definition video. A long press of the button turns on the camera and puts it in time-lapse photo mode. If you want more control of the camera, download the GoPro ap and synch it to the unit. Once your phone and the HERO 4 Session are talking to each other, options are limitless.
Perhaps the coolest aspect of the new camera, beyond its tiny footprint and ease of use, is the fact that it is absolutely waterproof to 33 feet deep. Unlike other GoPros, there is no need for a separate housing to protect the camera.
As for image quality, expect the same killer high-def video from the Session that you get with the HERO 4 Black and Silver (1080p60, 720p100 and 1440p30). The Session also captures 8MB single, burst or time lapse photos.
A nifty addition to this particular GoPro camera is the auto image rotation feature that corrects image orientation while shooting. Plus, the Session has a dual mic system that captures enhanced audio during high-wind activities…a necessity for high-speed boat runs or filming during a storm.
