What is it?
Simms Challenger Windbloc Hoody
What sets it apart?
Simms achieved the rare balance between a weather-ready jacket with plenty of wind and water-blocking ability and a sleek, well-fitting profile that facilitates a full range of mobility. That’s important because a jacket that bunches and bulges is, at best awkward and, at worst, restrictive. Made with Polartec Windbloc stretch fleece, the jacket is finished with a DWR water-resistant coating and also includes YKK water-resistant zippers to bolster the foul weather protection.
How do I use it?
For damp times or chilly morning runs, this jacket features a three-point adjustable storm hood, while a draw cord hem enables you to tighten the fit for maximum protection. The jacket features zippered hand warmer pockets for chilly times and a zippered chest pocket. These and the main zipper include storm flaps to prevent seepage.
A nice touch is the anti-line catch design of the molded cuff tabs, which use smooth, low-profile hook-and-loop fasteners that do their job without compromising yours. Available in three colors — anvil, dusk and loden.

Angler’s insight:
I tend to segregate my “fishing” apparel from my casual wear, but the Challenger WindBloc Hoody earned a spot on both rosters. I particularly like that the soft inner material, which feels like a traditional cotton hoody. But it’s good to know that the outer surface will get me through a light drizzle, a misty morning or a little wave spray. Because I like to keep my cellphone handy, but disdain the accident-waiting-to-happen vulnerability of tucking it into a rear pants pocket, I’m a big fan of vertically zippered chest pockets.
