Gear Review: Simms Challenger Boat Shoe

What is it?

Simms Challenger Boat Shoe

What sets it apart?

What good is a technically-advanced shoe if it isn’t comfortable? Not a worry for the Challenger Boat Shoe, as the TPU-reinforced heel counter combined with forefoot support promote optimal lateral control. Simms says that heel counter is particularly helpful in rough water, while the forefoot support helps stabilize the angler when pressure is shifted to the front of the foot. Also, Right Angle Footbed technology improves the shoe’s biomechanics and makes for an agreeable fit.

How do I use it?

Various levels of water exposure are inherently part of fishing, but who wants to be sloshing and squishing all day? Simms has built a shoe that allows you to operate around water without retaining any that invades your foot space. This is accomplished with mid- and outsole drainage, which expels excess water. For stability in your wet environment, siped outsoles maximize your grip on slippery surfaces, while hydrophobic, abrasion-fighting mesh uppers ensure durability for this all-weather shoe.

At 24.8 ounces (size 11), the Challenger is a sturdy, durable shoe that’s easily worn for a full day of fishing. Sizes 07-12 are available in whole and half sizes, while sizes 13 and 14 come in whole sizes only.

Angler’s insight:

A good choice for boat decks, I’ve also worn these shoes out on the town where the stylish design and comfortable walking support have enhanced the Challenger’s value. A few of the design features that I liked were the no-line-catch upper design for a streamlined tangle-free shoe, the convenient lacing mechanism and the latching tab that allows you to clip the end the lace loop to the forward end of the lace track.
