What is it?
Daiwa Exist Spinning Reel
What sets it apart?
Built with Daiwa’s LT CONCEPT (light yet tough), the Exist features a Magnesium Monocoque body design technique that relies on the exterior shell for structural support. This allows more room for gears and eliminates space-grabbing screw holes and side plate stabilization. With 85 percent of the area reserved for gear space, Daiwa was able to include larger, more powerful gearing. Made from high density carbon strain material that Daiwa says is 20 percent stronger and 50 percent lighter than traditional nylon and aluminum construction, the reel’s Zaion Air Rotor and Air Bail promote balanced rotations and reduce reel weight.
How do I use it?
Available in six models with 4.9, 5.2 and 6.2:1 gear ratios, the Exist’s mag sealed main shaft, bearings and line roller are lubricated with a magnetic oil that seals bearing surfaces from water and dirt without increasing friction. The reel includes digitally milled alloy gearing for efficient gear-tooth interaction, an ABS long-cast spool, 12 CRBB super corrosion-resistant ball bearings, and Daiwa’s ATD drag system with a proprietary grease that ensures smooth, consistent startup drag pressure.

Angler’s insight:
In a baitcaster-heavy sport, don’t let the spinning gear strategies escape you or you’ll find yourself watching the finesse-savvy outpace you. When times call for this approach, performance must be rock-solid, and the Exist is locked and loaded. The innovative body design ensures the gearing is beefy enough to wench up a stubborn largemouth that sucks in that tube, or put the brakes on a brown football that grabs your dropshot bait.
