What is it?
Columbia Solar Shade Shirts
What sets it apart?
Known for interweaving comfort with performance, Columbia introduces its new Omni-Shade Sun Deflector technology, which comprises spots of titanium dioxide that act as little mirrors to push harsh sunlight away from your body to keep you cool and protected. Further, the small reflective dots are applied to Omni-Shade fabric, which helps prevent Ultraviolet A and Ultraviolet B rays (UVA and UVB) from reaching your skin.
How do I use it?
Columbia offers this technology in PFG Solar Shade Zero Woven Long Sleeve and PFG Solar Shade Printed Long Sleeve versions. The latter comes in men’s and women’s styles with a variety of colors and prints, including a digital camo that creates visual depth to help disguise anglers in shallow water. A full button-up design, the strategically zoned former offers the sun-defecting dots on the shoulders and back. Additionally, PFG Solar Shade Zero Woven Long Sleeve includes a sun protection collar, roll-up sleeves, rod holder and Light Rail zippered chest pockets.

Angler’s insight:
If you’ve ever glanced at slick water on a sunny day, the reflected glare resembles the sun-deflecting properties of Columbia’s new shirts. This new technology is going to come in particularly handy on those hot, still dog days of summer when the air is heavy and still, and you feel like a French fry under a fast food heat lamp. I like how the button-up shirt’s vertically zippered chest pockets keep the front profile light and smooth.
