Gear Review: Carhartt Storm Defender Force Midweight Rain Suit

What is it?

Carhartt Storm Defender Force Midweight Rain Suit

What sets it apart?

Synonymous with hard work and durability, Carhartt expands its double-tough Storm Defender line with the new Force Midweight jacket and bib overall. Designed to stand up to the tough conditions in which anglers often pursue their passion, both jacket and bib are made of 5.4-ounce, 3-layer fabric with Storm Defender waterproof, breathable technology. Furthermore, Carhartt’s proprietary Rain Defender durable water repellent treatment adds a polymer to the garment’s outermost fabric, which works its way into the fibers to create a barrier that causes water to bead up on the surface.

How do I use it?

The Storm Defender Force Midweight jacket features an attached hood with visor, full-length waterproof zipper, left-chest map pocket with waterproof zipper closure, two inside pockets with hook and loop closures, two lower front pockets with waterproof zip closures, a two-way volume adjustable hood with drawcord and adjustable cuff opening with Magic Cuff technology. The bib’s design includes quilted Taffeta lining from the knee down, adjustable front-elastic suspenders, waterproof center front zipper, two waterproof zip front pockets, two lower pockets, chap style double front construction and adjustable waist and bottom cuff.

Angler’s insight:

The Carhartt Storm Defender Force Midweight jacket and bib carry a 10k/10k protection rating, which means that under a water pressure test, the fabric maintains its waterproof protection for up to 10,000 mm of water. Translating this into practical terms, the jacket and bib keeps the wearer dry in all but the extreme pressure of rain and/or wind that would likely wash out the day anyway. Fully taped waterproof seams help ensure dryness by preventing seepage were fabric sections are stitched together.
