Gear Review: AFTCO Pact Pants

What is it?

AFTCO Pact Pants

What sets it apart?

How do you make a good thing better? AFTCO’s answer: Make it longer. Such was the case for the company’s Pact Fishing Shorts, an item whose popularity spawned customer requests for a full length design — essentially, a pair of technical fishing pants that carried the same fit, function and comfort from waist to ankle. What AFTCO came up with is the MP81 Pact Fishing Pants, a good choice for keeping comfortable on cooler days, as well as protecting your legs from sunny conditions.

How do I use it?

Made with AFLEX 4-way stretch fabric (88-percent Nylon / 12-percent Spandex), the Pact Fishing Pants are treated with AFTCO’s proprietary AFGUARD stain resistance so the residue of an active fishing day ends at the washing machine. The design definitely consider’s an angler’s need to keep tools and spare tackle in close reach, as evidenced by Cordura reinforced pliers pockets with Block Tapey closure and rear pockets with reverse nylon coil zippers. Available in khaki or black with size 28-44

Angler’s insight:

Carrying on AFTCO’s reputation for addressing real-world needs with functional designs the Pact Fishing Pants should please anyone whose worn the namesake shorts. I’m a big fan of rear pocket security, as the constant — often erratic — movement common to an active fishing day can send cellphones and other items sliding out of open pockets. I also like the active fit, the cinch bottom leg openings and the reinforced knees — all helpful elements that let fishermen move like they need to.
