Gear Review: Gill Rock Soft Shell Jacket

What sets it apart?

Gill describes its new creation as both hard as a rock, yet soft; a goal achieved by combining a two-layer stretch soft shell fabric with a durable outer face and adding a hi-loft thermal lining for a deeper level of comfort. The Rock Softshell features adjustable cuffs and hem for customized fit, as well as a drawcord adjustable hood. A solid layering piece that integrates well with heavier outerwear, the Rock Soft Shell sports a stylish look that also works well off the water.

How do I use it?

Available in XS-XXL sizing and Ash color, the Gill Rock Soft Shell Jacket is made with a durable water-repellent finish. The design also includes a thermal lined hood with drawcord volume adjustment, zippered hand warmer pockets, adjustable cuffs for cold weather protection and adjustable hem. The fabric composition is 42% Nylon and 51% Polyester, along with 7% Spandex for added flexibility while casting.

Angler’s insight:

With a nautical heritage dating back to 1975 when British competitive sailor Nick Gill founded a company whose products are now sold in 37 countries, Gill’s fishing lineup seamlessly integrates the details necessary for protection from the elements with features that keep an angler in proper form. A great example here is the addition of Spandex to the fabric — a little dose of flexibility that ensures the wearer maintains full range of motion for those accurate casts. I like the streamlined profile and the generous pocket space.
