Gear Up: Lifetime Wave 60 Youth Kayak With Paddle

What is it?

Lifetime Products, now known as Lifetime, was founded in 1986 by a father who wanted to make better products for his family and other families that would last a lifetime. He started with a basketball hoop, and the product line quickly grew to include playgrounds, picnic tables, chairs, kayaks, paddle boards and more.

What sets it apart?

As with all of Lifetime’s products, the goal is to deliver kid and family products that create learning, fun and safety. The 6-foot Lifetime Wave 60 Youth Kayak is constructed with extremely durable high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and UV protection so it will not crack, split or fade. It’s built for kids 5 years and older with parent supervision and holds up to 130 pounds. The kayak itself is a mere 19 pounds, which makes it very easy to carry to and from the water. Additionally, there are multiple footrests for a comfortable seat, molded finger handles, built-in scupper holes that drain water and a patented swim-up design, making it easy for kids to get on from within the water, and it comes with the paddle. The wide-stance design creates ultimate stability and safety for kids, too.

How do I use it?

Bring your Lifetime Wave 60 Youth Kayak to any lake, stream or river. If your child is just learning, we recommend a lake with still/calm water first. Once your child is comfortable sitting in the kayak and using the paddle, let them kayak around you. Always make sure kayakers have life vests on and that an adult is close by. Once kids are more skilled and comfortable with the kayak, your entire family can head out together for an afternoon of fun!

How much?

$100 – $235

Adventurtunity Family insight:

We’ve been eyeing Lifetime’s youth kayak for over a year now. We saw it a bunch of times last summer and thought it was something our son might enjoy. We love to paddle board; however, it isn’t Kade’s favorite. He prefers to sit down and says he wishes paddle boards had sides. Since he turned 5 and we will be spending a lot of time on the water, we decided to get it for him this year. The sizing is great, and he still has plenty of room to grow into it. The included, two-piece paddle is easy to handle, and he is getting good with it rather quickly! While it is nice and light at 19 pounds, it’s a bit awkward for him to carry by himself for now. But he loves getting out on the water in it, and we are glad he has a kayak he feels comfortable in. It did not come with a leash, but we think we’ll get one for him to keep the kayak close if he hops in the water. You can, of course, order the youth kayak online, but we have also seen them at Walmart, Home Depot and Tractor Supply Company. Coincidentally, Lifetime is based in Utah, and while staying in Utah, we were able to pick one up from a local Lifetime store. And thankfully it fit in our Jeep! If you plan to pick one up, don’t forget to pack straps or bungee cords to make sure you get it home safely.
