Gear Up: AFTCO Transformer Rainsuit

Dependable rainwear is essential for your outdoors gear, but whether you’re hiking, camping, paddling or simply short on space, a bulky jacket and bib is less than practical. That’s where the AFTCO Transformer Rainsuit comes in.

What sets it apart?

AFTCO offers a functional, comfortable option with the Transformer rainsuit. Made with a nylon ripstop base, the jacket and pants will stretch for maximum mobility thanks to the blended spandex material. When not in use, both items pack into their respective right-hand pockets.

How do I use it?

The jacket design features two hand pockets, an adjustable hood and Velcro cuff adjustments to vary airflow and control water intrusion. The pants include an elastic waistband with drawcord, hand pockets and large, knee-high side zippers for easy removal. Available in black and khaki, the AFTCO Transformer rainsuit pieces are available in sizes S-2XL.

How much?

Jacket: $99
Pants: $79

Angler’s insight:

Seems like in many cases, outdoors enthusiasts have to choose between a packable rainsuit that’ll hardly repel a garden mister, or one that does the job but feels more like a small duffle bag when “packed.” I got my hands on these jacket and pants recently, and it was nice to see AFTCO-level quality and construction in outerwear that actually packs into itself easily and conveniently. The leg design is a nice touch, not only for safety, but for people who forget they should have put their boots on after their rain pants. (Guilty)
