Gear Review: St. Croix PHYSYX Rods

WHAT IS IT

St. Croix PHYSYX Rods

WHAT SETS IT APART?

Most of the PHYSYX rods are built on SCIV+ carbon fiber blanks (SCIV blended with SCVI material) for lightweight, balanced and highly refined profiles that meld strength and sensitivity to bolster their intended techniques and presentations. Select moderate-action, reaction-bait models have iACT Glass blanks, comprising a hybrid layup of SCIV+ and 100% linear S-glass materials. Built with model-specific hook keepers, PHYSYX rods include St. Croix’s proprietary Fortified Resin System (FRS) technology, Advanced Reinforcing Technology (ART), Integrated Poly Curve (IPC) mandrel technology and Taper Enhancement Technology (TET) blank design.

HOW DO I USE IT?

Fishing is recreation, and whether you do it for fun or livelihood, it’s supposed to be fun. The rod-making pros at St. Croix agree, but their approach to best equipping bass anglers of all levels with the best tools possible has yielded the new PHYSYX rod series, which debuted March 22, at the Bassmaster Classic. A clear play on the scientific field of physics, St. Croix’s new family of technique-focused rods embody the company’s commitment to maximizing materials and motion by designing lengths and actions that deliver performance in a range of specific presentations.

ANGLER’S INSIGHT:

One of the most intriguing features of the St. Croix PHYSYX lineup is the rear-trigger located near the base of the handle (casting and spinning models). This unique control/leverage point complements the Molded Carbon Fiber TRIGON handle design, which ensures optimal comfort, control and energy transmission. This design pairing promotes optimal casting accuracy — particularly beneficial for anglers making precise presentations to fish they’ve spotted on live sonar. Advanced guide trains sporting premium, rigid titanium guides with silicon carbide rings further promote the rod’s balance and performance.
