Gear Review: St. Croix PHYSX Minnow Shaker Rod

WHAT IS IT?

St. Croix PHYSYX Minnow Shaker Rod

WHAT SETS IT APART?

Three models — a 6-3 medium-light extra-fast, a 6-3 medium extra-fast and a 6-6 medium-light extra fast — are built with SCIV+ hybrid tubular carbon fiber blanks, titanium guides and anthropometric design for a tool that St. Croix describes as an evolved lever and conductor of energy. Adding a molded carbon fiber TRIGON handle, DYNAMIX reel seat and rear trigger grip, the PHYSYX rods promote superior control, balance, feedback and comfort for a full day of shaking that little bait.

HOW DO I USE IT?

It’s no surprise that one of the fastest growing segments of the bass tackle industry is the jighead minnow. Certainly not the only bait compatible with forward-facing sonar technology, but St. Croix was right on point by expanding the PHYSYX lineup with a set of rods designed to offer maximum control for the jighead minnow technique. St. Croix ensures quality and performance with Fortified Resin System technology, Advanced Reinforcing Technology, Integrated Poly Curve mandrel technology and Taper Enhancement Technology blank design.

HOW MUCH?

ANGLER’S INSIGHT:

Talk to seasoned forward-facing sonar gurus and they’ll tell you the importance of natural presentations cannot be overstated. The goal of mimicking a vulnerable baitfish, a minnow or shad quivering in the chilly water starts with the right jig and body setup, but the angler’s deft touch makes all the difference. That’s where the St. Croix Physic Minnow Shaker plays a key role. A durable, yet super light rod provides plenty of fish whipping strength without feeling heavy in the hand.
