Gear Review: Okuma ITX CB

WHAT IS IT?

Okuma ITX CB Spinning Reel

WHAT SETS IT APART?

Okuma attended to several details that facilitate operating this reel, including a reversible screw-in carbon fiber handle and lightweight EVA handle knobs, precision machine cut brass pinion gear and Quick-Set anti-reverse roller bearing for quick hook sets and a heavy-duty, solid aluminum bail wire with a DLC line roller and the RESII: Computer balanced Rotor Equalization System for peak performance. The Okuma ITX CB comes in size 1000 with a 5.8:1 gear ratio, and sizes 2500, 3000 and 4000 with 6.0:1 gear ratios.

HOW DO I USE IT?

Okuma builds on the success of its ITX Carbon Spinning reel with the release of a new model built to JDM (Japanese domestic market) specifications. Essential to this reel’s design is a lightweight and rigid C-40X rotor and TCA construction, which gives the ITX CB a strong and durable body. With a Flite Drive system enhancing gear stability and smoothness, the reel features multi-disk Carbonite drag washers with Hydro Block gasket for smooth, consistent drag, while the A7075 spool shaft and key drag washers significantly reduce weight.

ANGLER’S INSIGHT:

JDM products represent a higher level of design detail and practical performance, so Okuma’s packing a lot of good stuff in a moderately-priced reel. One of this reel’s cool features, the Cyclonic Flow Rotor Technology, sweeps water away from the machined aluminum, super-light anodized aluminum spool. This minimizes corrosion — a key element in this reel’s saltwater crossover. For tidal bass fisheries from the Sabine River to the Mississippi Delta, the Okuma ITX CB is built to withstand ventures into the brine.
