Gear Review: Hobie Hank Cherry Bluefin Sunglasses

WHAT IS IT?

Hobie Hank Cherry Bluefin Sunglasses

What sets it apart?

Hobie Eyewear’s new Bluefin model is part of the Hank Cherry Champion Series, which respectfully nods to the North Carolina pro’s back-to-back Bassmaster Classic wins. The largest frame in Hobie’s lineup, the Bluefin is made to accommodate anglers with larger faces. Built with an eight-base curve and wide temples, this comfortable model provides maximum coverage with flotation and durability ensured by the ultra-light buoyant material. Accented by rubber highlights in Cherry’s signature red frame, the black satin frame also includes the accomplished angler’s logo on the inside of the temple.

HOW DO I USE IT?

With co-molded rubber nose pads and temples keeping the sunglasses in place, the Hobie Bluefin’s premium nylon lenses are available in Hobie Sea Green Mirror, a copper-based tint with a sea green mirror (high contrast and sight penetration) or Hobie Sightmaster Plus, a gold/yellow mirror that’s ideal for low-light conditions or under heavy cloud cover. Each one includes a microfiber cloth and a Hobie hard eyeglass case with a carabiner clip.

ANGLER’S INSIGHT:

Cherry is well known for his youth coaching and his encouragement to young anglers, so investing the effort into designing sunglasses with pro-level attributes with a budget-friendly price is just par for the course with this well-respected angler. A couple of the design points Cherry personally appreciates most are the Bluefin’s full coverage, which prevents eye irritation, and the lightweight form making them easy to wear all day without headaches.
