Gear Review: G Loomis GLX

WHAT IS IT?

G. Loomis GLX Bass Rods

WHAT SETS IT APART?

Following the internal principle of continuous refinement, G. Loomis has released a newly revamped lineup of GLX BASS series rods. Handcrafted in Woodland, Wash., these rods feature a proprietary blend of high-modulus graphite and advanced resin technologies, which create rod blanks with boosted strength-to-weight ratios, superb balance and maximum sensitivity. For optimal performance, each rod is rolled on stepped mandrels machined with micro-tapers within the overall taper. This isolates and reinforces areas that could fail under load and enhances them for maximum durability.

HOW DO I USE IT?

The GLX Bass series includes 36 purpose-built models for jig and worm casting, jig and worm spinning, mag bass casting, flip and pitch casting, bladed jig casting, Carolina rig casting, jerkbait casting, drop-shot spinning, spin jig spinning and shaky head spinning. Each rod is equipped with full tangle-free Fuji K SiC guide train for improved line management and overall weight reduction. Other details include premium cork handles and custom CI4+ reel seats, which increase the angler’s blank connection for bite sensitivity.

HOW MUCH?

$525-$575

ANGLER’S INSIGHT:

There’s a lot to be said for multipurpose tackle with the versatility to handle multiple presentations. It’s a time-efficient notion that’s easy on the wallet, and it makes sense for budget-conscious anglers at all levels of competition or fun fishing. But when budgets allow a greater sense of purpose — a deeper indulgence into the principle of “the right tool for the job” — G. Loomis has perfected a line of rods specifically conceived and assembled for anything from finesse fishing tactics to covering water with power fishing techniques or picking apart heavy structure.
