Gear Review: Daiwa Ardito Travel Rod

WHAT IS IT?

Daiwa Ardito (Jitte) Telescoping Rod

WHAT SETS IT APART?

Daiwa takes a unique approach to the travel rod form with its new Ardito Jitte Telescopic travel rod. Most telescoping rods employ fixed guides at the top of each collapsing section, but Daiwa designed these self-contained spinning and baitcasting rods with floating guides that gather below the fixed tip when the rod is in its collapsed position. The Ardito Jitte comes with an upper portion cover, which unscrews to reveal the telescopic sections and the guide train. That anatomy features one collapsible stripper guide and seven floating guides for the spinning model.

HOW DO I USE IT?

The Japanese term “Jitte” refers to (pronounced gee-tay) from a small weapon used by Japanese police a few centuries ago, an apropos description for the rod’s compacted form, which arms anglers for impromptu, or space-limited fishing trips. A travel-friendly package that fits in suitcases, backpacks and briefcases, the Ardito Jitte is made from lightweight, sensitive graphite with Daiwa’s Braiding X technology for blank reinforcement. Both 6-7 rods include strategically placed V-Flex Ferrules that bend with the rod for a smooth powerful action. Screwing the cover onto the rod’s bottom section creates the handle.

ANGLER’S INSIGHT:

One thing users will quickly notice is that all those floating guides can create a “herding cats” scenario — until you learn the technique. Summarily, you’ll want to use gravity to your advantage by holding the collapsed rod in a horizontal posture so the guides naturally hang downward. Starting with the tip, pull out one section at a time and snug it into the top of the next section. Continuing this process provides subsequent alignment that’s much more consistent than snapping out all of those sections like a Jedi igniting his lightsaber and then trying to align all those guides.
