New’s power plant produces

Head out with Bryan New early Day 3 of the 2022 Simms Bassmaster Elite at Lake Fork!

Bryan New started out the third day of the 2022 Simms Bassmaster Elite Series at Lake Fork sitting in third place, and he made a short run to a point near the power plant on the west fork of the lake.
New went right for his electronics to ensure he was in the right position and that there were bass showing on the long point extending from the bank.
After throwing moving baits for a few minutes, New sat down and put scent on a plastic worm.
And hooked up on the first cast as he worked the lure down the side of the point.
He was soon weighing what turned out to be a 3-pound, 11-ounce bass to get his day started.
The worm was quickly put back into action.
New was soon fighting fish No. 2, another 3-pounder.
Other competitors, including Louisiana’s Darold Gleason, ran past New’s position.
New rotated through baits, including a swim bait, a jerkbait, a crankbait and the worm.
It was the worm that produced on this first spot. By 8 a.m. he was fighting his third fish.
This bass was another 3-pounder, to give New about 10 pounds as the foundation of his day.
New didn’t waste any time. While his fish was being weighed, the angler would rerig so he would be ready to make a cast as soon as the bass was released.
New made pretty much the same cast over and over, firing his lures at this old tree snag.
About 8:20, after not getting a bite for about 15 minutes, New pulled up the trolling motor to head to his next spot.
New graphed a couple of other points without stopping. Finally, he put the trolling motor down on another point. The winds had picked up, whipping up heavy waves.
This time, New positioned his boat on top of the point and cast his worm into deeper water.
That was the ticket to his fourth bass.
This fish, his smallest of the day, was quickly weighed and released.
After another 15 or 20 minutes without a bite, New was on the move again.
He headed right back to his starting point near the power plant.
This time, however, he set up shallower, alternately working his lure parallel to the top of the ridge and from deep to shallow. He was burning the lure along, with very short periodic pauses.
His crankbait began producing, this time another 3-pounder.
He made a color change before firing a deep-diving crankbait into the deeper water so he could drag the lure up the point’s side.
He soon was prepping to boat another bass.
However, he worked this fish more, indicating it could be a heavier bass.
Finally, the chunky bass was in hand.
This bass really moved New’s weight in the right direction.
It weighed 5-14, pushing New’s limit to over 18 pounds.
… showed it off to the cameraman in his boat …
… and released it.
