Catch up with the current AOY leader, Brandon Palaniuk, on Day 1 of the 2022 Guaranteed Rate Bassmaster Elite at St. Lawrence River.
Palaniuk is currently sitting in first place for Angler Of The Year with 536 points. John Cox being a close second with 518 points.
He is looking to keep that lead and hopefully widen that gap. This predominantly being a deeper water fishery could play in his favor.
Palaniuk begins his day in a trusted spot. A place he fished last year and some years prior.
Within minutes of arrival, Palaniuk finds one.
And it’s a good one!
And headed to the livewell.
The spot Palaniuk is fishing is surpisingly not a deep area.
He is hovering across a shollow water flat and shell bar where he is able to spot fish and some what sight fish them.
Shortly after, he is hooked up on another.
And another good fish in the boat!
Almost back-to-back, Palaniuk finds another.
A five fish limit in the baot and Palaniuk is flirting with first place on BASSTrakk.
Continuing to be on a roll, he hooks up on another.
Another nice smallmouth, and this one will allow him to cull.
A nice cull puts Palaniuk briefly in first place on BASSTrakk with 23-0.
A great example swims by our boat, showing the cruising smallmouth on the shallow flat.
