Day 2 with Downey

Follow along with Bob Downey as he takes on Day 2 of the 2022 Guaranteed Rate Bassmaster Elite at St. Lawrence River!

By the time we caught up with Bob Downey Jr., he already had 23 pounds.
The water clarity where he was fishing was gin clear. He could see fish 20 feet away.
Downey was catching fish on several different baits. Here he was using a chartreuse fluke type bait.
Typically one would not boat flip a 3 pound smallmouth when $100k is on the line; but he knew this fish would not help him.
Back to sight fishing we go!
When the fish would not respond to one of the baits, he would rotate to 2 others.
Downey said it is very difficult to judge the size of these fish underwter.
Downey gently releases his cull fish.
These fish are extremely powerful and getting them in the boat without a net is tough.
After only catching 3-4 pounders, Downey decides to head for deeper water to catch some bigger fish.
