Jocumsen and Webster’s Day 1 battle

Carl Jocumsen and Jonathan Webster share the same spot on Day 1 of the Whatabuger Bassmaster Elite on Pickwick Lake

Carl Jocumsen was boater number 40 this morning at the Whataburger Bassmaster Elite on Pickwick Lake. He and Jonathan Webster , boater 45, knew they would be fishing the same areas at some point.
Joseph Webster putting the hammer down to be first to his best spot.
The morning was calm with a slight chop; so Webster starts with a moving bait.
Webster said that long casts are important when ledge fishing; and matching the right rod, with the right reel and line are so important.
Soon after Webster gets to his first stop, and of course sees that Carl is already there, Jocumsen boats his first fish.
They were sharing a small hump right along side the river ledge.
When you are this close, and both of you are running electronics, inteference happens quite frequently.
Early morning casual conversations are normal here on Pickwick.
As the day continues, and after watching Carl catch his third keeper, Webster swithces to a slower bait, like a shakey head.
It was entertainig for the competitors to be so close to watch them catch fish off the same spot.
Webster boat-flips a 4 pounder.
Carl admiring Webster’s boat-flipped fish.
Webster switches back to a scrounger style bait, allowing it to fall to the bottom, then winding it slowly back to the boat.
It doesn’t take but a few casts to hook up once again.
Webster goes back to the shakey head.
Webster now goes for the old ball and chain with longer than normal leader, around 5′.
Switching over to a more finesse style with lighter line definitly is working for Carl.
Allowing the long leader from the carolina rig to splash down on the back-cast, gives Webster more spring for longer casts.
