The onslaught of giant smallmouth we’ve seen pour in the last four days is coming to a halt. The Top 10 anglers are due in a half hour. Most are making their last casts, or already have, before battling back through the boat wakes. It appears as though it’s a two-horse sprint to the finish now. Joey Cifuentes has the lead, but his fishing is done and he’s headed in. Taku Ito has the last shot to chase him down, needing one heavy 5-pounder to make this interesting.
It’s been an awesome week. Looking forward to seeing how this one shakes out. And then we’ll link back up in a few days for a couple more back-to-back whackfests on Lake Champlain and the St. Lawrence River to finish out the season. Til then.
