Welcher corralled the kicker against the side of his boat and slid it in. “Saved the freaking day with that one,” Welcher exclaimed as he unhooked the bass weighing 4 and ½ pounds. This fish culled out a 2.5 pounder and moved Welcher up over 20 places on BassTrakk, to put him right there with AOY leader Brandon Cobb… momentarily.
Just 5 minutes after Welcher boated his 4-8 at 1:08, Cobb put an identical 4.5 pounder in the boat to move into 11th on the day and securely back into first in the AOY race, for the moment.
“That’s why we’re out here deep, deep,” said Kyle Welcher as he pulled a big one up from the depths. “That’s a full grown one right there. That one with it is just as big.”
