Several of the Elite Series anglers are a threat to underestimate their catches at each and every event when entering them into BassTrakk. To show the guys a little grace, this isn’t always done just to annoy the coverage crew or surprise the fans. Finding out you’ve overestimated your weight when the scales settle at the end of the day is one of the most disheartening things in competitive bass fishing.
There seems to be more underestimating than usual going on to start this event however. We watched Seth Feider on LIVE this morning call multiple fish 4-plus while having them entered into BassTrakk as 3s. Steve Bowman is on the water watching Cooper Gallant do the same, putting over 20 pounds in the boat per Bowman while the angler is estimating on BassTrakk that his limit weighs only 17 pounds, 12 ounces.
It may be true that the Canadian has more than he’s reporting, and Feider and others likely have more than they are saying as well. But there is one thing rolling around the minds of these anglers that may truly have them second guessing their guts with good cause, the bass are very skinny here this time.
Bass Fishing Hall of Famer and LIVE host Davy Hite noted this as well, predicting that we’ll actually see several anglers put what they believe to be 20-pound bags on the scales this afternoon that will end up weighing closer to 18 pounds. All of this considered, BassTrakk will be a maybe, sometimes best guess for this event.
