With less that 60 minutes remaining in the 2022 Bassmaster Elite Series season, this one is still anyone’s race.
Our Day 3 leader Chris Johnston appears to have done what he needs to do to hold off the remainder of the Top 10. But three or four guys still have a legitimate shot, if they can catch a 5-pounder in this last hour.
Now a 5-pounder is a huge fish on this stretch of the Mississippi, but it’s not unrealistic, especially when taking into consideration Brandon Lester has a couple of those in his 18-8 bag currently.
One more of these big bites for Lester, Bryan Schmitt, Keith Combs or Bryan New could spell an upset for Johnston. While one more bite for Johnston would all but slam the door on the rest of the field.
Everyone has caught them here on the final day, with six of the Top 10 estimating they have over 14-pounds, and it unlikely that we’ll see even one angler weigh single digits at the end of the day.
A great event to cap off an awesome year. This one is going to come down to the wire.
