Hunter Shryock has had some all-out battles with bass this week. One of the most epic happened on Day 2 when he wrangled a 5-pounder out from under a dock with a spinning rod. He just one-upped himself. Shryock hooked what looked like a good fish on a wacky rig under a walkway. The fish took off between the dock posts and any likelihood of ever seeing the fish seemed gone. But Shryock held onto hope. He went up to the dock, tried to lead the bass back through the labyrinth, finally gave up a minute in, and slid his rod through the posts. Then stood up, pulled the fish to the boat, and lipped the 7-pounder.
“That’s the biggest fish I’ve caught all year,” Shryock exclaimed. “God is good.”
Shryock also credited his Berkley Trilene for the catch, telling us that he’s using a 10-pound 100% fluorocarbon leader. He kept intentionally moving his rod back and forth during the battle, to ensure that his line didn’t stay in the same spot as it rubbed against rock and wood. What a fish catch. Shryock now has three fish for 15 pounds.
