“They ain’t biting dude”

Local anglers David Gaston and Will Davis Jr are having a hard time getting the bass to commit this morning. Hopeful for a big largemouth bite early, Gaston and Davis both went shallow. Both have succeeded, putting a 4-pounder apiece in their respective boats. But they’ve also had a few short strikes each, some looking like good fish.

More than once, a large boil under Davis’s frog resulted in only a flinch from him, as the frog continued to float and nothing else came of the interaction. Gaston had a big fish nearly engulf to his swim jig, then turn off at the last second.

“They ain’t biting dude,” said Scott Canterbury, another local to Lay Lake. Canterbury has one bass in the boat for 1 pound, 8 ounces and he sits in 42nd. Plenty of time to make them bite, but this was supposed to be the easy time of day to get bit.
