With 2 and 1/2 hours left before the first flight is due in, some of the anglers out on the lake are already into their last hour of fishing. The 30- to 40- mile runs out into the lake are going to be arduous crawls back. This run cost some anglers more than an hour of fishing time this morning, and it’ll cost them more than that this afternoon. History says though the bigger bass are in Lake Ontario. Several anglers took that bait, but haven’t bested many of the anglers that stayed in the St. Lawrence River.
Look no further than AOY leaders Brandon Cobb and Kyle Welcher. Welcher ran to the lake and caught around 23 pounds. Cobb stayed in the river and matched his performance. The two sit in 4th and 5th today in a virtual tie, Cobb with a little less back pain no doubt. And Cobb with the most time left to upgrade.
