Lots to talk about this morning. Kyoya Fujita has the hottest hand of the day, with his ultra-finesse techniques. There are a lot of boats in the area with Fujita today, some competitors that were there on Day 1, some that (supposedly) weren’t, and a few locals to boot. Fujita’s top-secret finesse tactics have given him an edge this morning, as he just culled again to extend his lead with his second 4-8 of the day, approaching 20 pounds now.
Caleb Sumrall has the second biggest bag of the day (19-4) and is the dark horse of the day. Sumrall is a big-time largemouth guy. We have ideal conditions for largemouth fishing here on Day 2, but it’s pure speculation to even suggest that’s what he’s doing. Whatever he’s doing, he has three in the boat over 4 pounds already.
Jay Przekurat sits in 3rd, casting a jighead rigged with a soft plastic minnow-style bait. He’s one of several anglers using this style of moping/Damiki rig setup.
Patrick Walters is one angler who is definitely doing something different, fishing a jerkbait for suspended fish chasing bait high in the water column. He started the day in 7th and just filled his limit to move back around 3rd.
*Things are happening so fast that it’s hard to keep up. While writing this, Przekurat filled his limit with a 3-12 and Fujita culled with another 4-pounder to get to 20-12. The top of the leaderboard is shuffling constantly.
