Last week saw a new moon. Pairing that with a warming trend after a cold front and a lot of bass are supposed to have spawned last week before the Elite Series anglers hit the water for practice.
Swindle is seeing evidence to support this theory. He’s seeing lots of bass fry scatter as he reels his bait through the shallow vegetation in the area where he’s fishing. This is a tell-tale sign that bass in the area have recently spawned, as the eggs start to hatch out to small baby bass known as fry.
Swindle started seeing these little schools of fry on the last day of practice (Tuesday) and he’s seeing more and more everyday. This indicates to him that the “big wave” of spawners has already come and gone.
“There may be a few more that trickle in, but I don’t think we’ll see another big wave.”
