After mining an area with a few other competitors this morning yielding little to no result, Clifford Pirch made one pass back through the area that had been most stingy during the AM.
With four bass to his credit, the Golden Ram was willing to give it one last try. As we made our way back into the area where we spent the morning, the clouds parted, the temperature went up, but most importantly, the sun came out and Pirch could see.
“The sun makes all the difference in the world,” said the Phenix Rods AFTCO Pro. “Before, we were making blind casts into an area and we were making wasted casts, but now, I can see the bass, the beds and the sun is the difference.”
Since the sun came out, Pirch has added his fifth bass and culled once. He’s located some more, a few that’s he’s fished for and others he’s marked.
Pirch has to check in at 3:30pm. Being boat 34 in flight 2 will most likely serve as a disadvantage today with the afternoon sun. The guys sight fishing in the later flights will have the advantage of having the sun overhead for longer in their fishing day, but will need to take full advantage of that gift.
Pirch, meanwhile, knows he’s got roughly an hour to salvage what has been a frustrating day. Out here on the Bassmaster Elite Series, they say you can’t win the tournament on Thursday, but you can sure lose it on Thursday.
“We just need a donkey and the sun,” joked Pirch.
