Stubborn actions at play

Koby Kreiger had a whale of a day on an area near Cape Vincent yesterday. One that could’ve been better if not for a couple lost fish.

He was back there this morning.  But the action wasn’t near what we witnessed yesterday.

In fairly quick fashion he caught two 4-pound class fish, followed up with a 3-feet long or better northern.  But the big smallmouth slowed for him. He’s now moved on and headed to the lake.

Not far from him is a flat where we watched Bernie Schulz and Brandon Palaniuk have two great days. Or at least starts to great days.

We’ve switched to that location. Palaniuk has yet to show. And at 9 a.m. we watched Schultz boat his first keeper. It was a 4-pounder.

On the surface that’s a nice start. But at this time yesterday he had 18 pounds.

For Schultz and Kreiger it seems things have changed from 24 hours ago when every other angler was describing the fishing as “insane.”

That might be an apt description. Today the fishing has slowed enough that it could be driving some of these guys mad.

But the wind has just started to pick up. Doesn’t take long here to get back up to speed.

It will be interesting to see if Schultz who decided to stick sees the dividends. Or Kreiger who decided to move finds another wad of big ones.

These kind of moves and stubborn actions will likely play a big role in today’s first cut.
