One of the interesting things about Oahe is that it has more in common with some of the better sported bass fisheries that the Elite Series frequents than it does a few of the smallmouth staples like the St Lawrence, Champlain and St Claire.
The reason being, herring. One of the more prevalent bait fish here, herring are usually associated more with spotted bass because of their pretense in fisheries like Hartwell and Lanier. And though these herring aren’t the typical blue backs we’re accustom to, they’re still nomadic like their near relatives. This makes Oahe fish more like a herring lake than a typical smallmouth fishery, when it comes to locating fish at least.
So we wondered, would anglers from Georgia and the Carolinas fair well here targeting these smallmouth the same way they do spotted bass back home? Hank Cherry, David Fritts and Marc Frazier have emphatically answered that question early this morning, all showing up in the top 10.
